ABOUT THIS PAINTING:

Every New Year’s Eve in Italy, people try to eat 12 grapes at midnight, one for each month, to bring good luck and prosperity in the coming year. Italians have embraced this tradition and now it’s become a playful ritual on TikTok and around social tables too. Each grape is thought to symbolize abundance and good fortune.

Some people even go under the table while eating the grapes, sometimes said to boost the chance of finding love in the new year! 💕 (Yes, traditions evolve in the wildest ways 😄)

This raccoon is joyfully munching on grapes a little nod to that hope, that belief in good things coming, and the joy of trying something silly and sweet.

The light on the grapes, the playful character… that’s exactly why I loved painting this guy!
